A client brought in this Philippine Mahogany cookie that his Father had gotten hold of back in the 70’s, and my client had been dragging it around for many years after that. I milled it down, but stopped short of taking out all of the original chain saw marks. I thought they looked pretty dramatic. We turned it into a real keepsake coffee table.
Grandpa's Oak Flooring
A friend brought in a pile of old tongue and groove flooring from the 1930’s that he gathered and saved from his Grandfather’s basement. We turned it into this beautiful little kitchen nook table top, and then crafted this corner bench seat to go with it. Grandpa lives on!
Cherry Murphy Bed w/ Bookcases & Desk
I keep getting requests for Murphy Beds here in Missoula. This is the third that I have built here in town in the last 2 years, and my first w/ a fold down desk. I do enjoy building them, and if you have a small home, you can’t beat them for a space saving guest room.

My new work space is my Missoula, MT. studio at Spruce Street Studio, where I work mostly on free standing furniture pieces, however, I still manage to squeeze in a few custom built-ins now and again. This media wall unit consists of African wenge cabinets w/ sliding doors, cherry counter tops, and one of my wagon wheel art pieces of laminated red oak with a claro walnut slab at its center.
Gustavian Style Kitchen Island
My final large project of 2019 was a kitchen island for a couple in Aspen, CO.
They were very fond of Gustavian era antique style, so this was the goal. Fine beading, chevron applications, and a very specific distressing method w/ various sub colors and a crackle top coat. Six to Seven weeks of fabrication time & a whole lot of fun to create.

Mid Century Modern
Growing up in my New York home in the 1960’s & 70’s, I was obsessed at an early age by some of the pieces of furniture in my parent’s home. Credenzas, desks, & chairs with simple design elements yet high style. I have designed several pieces in the mid mod style over the years, and am back at it again. I am adding to the collection this cherry credenza w/ walnut drawers & large walnut door pulls. Veneering is a specialty, so like all of my pieces, the wood grain runs continuously across the top & down each side as well as there being a pleasing book match across the door fronts. The 5” diameter solid walnut pulls look & feel beautiful.
Walnut Slab Conference Table
My most recent piece. Installed in July of 2019. Four large black walnut slabs make up this 18' long X 5' wide conference table. The data ports at each end are custom fitted with solid black walnut parts to blend into the overall piece. I have done a few of these solid slab conference tables now. It's a great look, and I love building them.

Home Office / Maple Desk
A few months back I built this custom maple desk based on an architect's drawing. Super simple design, but heavy & substantial for it's place in the office. Delivered in three parts and assembled on site, an elegant piece with some weight.
Douglas Fir Stacked Mantelpiece
An ultra modern space needs touches of raw material to keep it grounded.
This mantelpiece was a simple way to introduce some organic material
into a super clean environment, and it works really well.
Downtown Denver Loft
This piece is from a couple of years ago. I came across the photos doing research for an entertainment center for a new client. The piece has a very elegant pickled oak finish & as I remember, the barn door hardware was super smooth to operate. The horizontal grain on the doors has a good look to it as well.
Cottonwood Cookies
Last year we built a 20' long redwood conference table for a company out in the Denver Tech Center. The photo of that table made it to the blog a while back, but I neglected to include the cottonwood cookies in each waiting area. We made these coffee tables using cottonwood rings of various sizes for each of their six waiting areas. My supplier had cut these cookies more than 25 years ago. I believe they were properly dried.
Revisiting A Past Project
Recently I was asked to do some refinishing work on a set of tables we built for a company called I.M.A. back in 2012 or so. Here are a few shots of the pieces now. Everything has held up beautifully & they all still look just great. All of them being solid slab pieces, this can only be achieved through the use of lumber that is properly dried here in Colorado.
Security Desk
Last year I did quite a few pieces for the offices of Continuum Partners in downtown Denver right near Union Station, and close on the heals of their completion, I was asked to fabricate a desk for the security officer in the lobby. The curved wall has a chemical applied that matches the elevator doors, and all the wood is walnut. A fun little piece to work on.

Maple Kitchen Nook
This little unit is simple enough, the challenge in an old 1920's home like this is how out of square are the walls it's being attached to? The installation can be the worst part if floors and walls go diving in all directions, but this space was in remarkably good shape & the install went real well. The maple matches their kitchen and has a clean beautiful look.
Redwood Conference Table
This Redwood Slab Conference Table, completed in Autumn of 2017, is 20' in length X 6' in width, constructed using a total of six redwood slabs, and has three large redwood veneered pedestals. Power is distributed to data ports on the table's top through a hidden wire chase on the underside.

Mirror Image Etageres w/ Lighting
Completed mid Summer of 2017, these mirror image etageres for a client in South Denver were a challenge in many ways, but they did turn out beautifully. The pieces are all right angles, so all the joinery is very simple and straight forward, woodworking 101 stuff. The trick in a piece like this is knowing in which order to work. What to attach where and exactly when and after which steps have been completed first. You always have to think three or four steps ahead.
I love my job
I love my work, but I find it difficult to sit down and write something about it. It;s the process that is exciting, the getting there that is what is important, but I'm told I should document these things, so here goes. Installed early this Summer in it's home on Wynkoop St. across from Union Station in downtown Denver, this 21' x 8' boat shaped conference table is the largest Mori Furniture has ever designed & built. Four top sections & four diamond shaped pedestals make up this big beautiful monster. The top is fabricated from solid cherry and utilizing 1/16" thick cherry & mahogany veneers for the overall top design. The table apron houses 12 data ports allowing the table top to be completely clear and leaving it with an unobstructed expansive look. Projects like this are super challenging, & very rewarding. I love my job.
